Description
This vase was made by the Dutch pottery factory Rozenburg from The Hague in February or March 1898. This is model 421, a vase with a wide base and a wide body, which tapers into a narrow neck with two prominent handles. The object measures 24 cm or 9.4 inch in height and 19,5 cm or 7.6 inch in width. The vase is painted with red and orange flowers against a dark blue and dark brown background. The vase has lovely details in the painting, such as a flowing ribbon at the bottom of the neck and two small butterflies. The vase is well marked with the factory name: Rozenburg Den Haag. You can also see the factory logo, the stork and the crown, the year mark for 1898. The vase was painted by P.G. Diepersloot and is in excellent condition. A small piece of glaze is missing from the top of the neck, as is the inside of one of the arms. A few tiny flakes are visible on the base of the vase, near the foot ring. I wouldn’t call these damage, but they do indicate the vase’s age.
