Description
This vase was made by the Dutch pottery firm Wed. N.S.A. Brantjes & Co. from Purmerend in the period 1895-1904. This is model 1058, a vase with a bulbous body and two striking handles that meet at two points above the neck. The vase is 26.3 cm or 10.3 inch high and 22.5 cm or 8.8 inch wide and is painted with decoration A. You can see blue flower cups and green patterns against a beige and yellow background. The vase is clearly signed. The factory name is on the bottom: Faience de Purmerende Hollande. You can also see the factory logo in the shape of a clog with the letters NB (for Nicolaas Brantjes). It is noteworthy that this vase is marked with an incorrect model number. It reads: 1069 (should be 1058). You also see a reference to the decoration: A, a C (possibly a year letter for 1897) and the signature of an unknown ceramic painter: AD. The vase is not entirely perfect. On the neck, a few spots of paint have not adhered properly. One of the handles has also been restored at two breaks, to the left and right of the point. There is no trace of this now.
