Description

This clock was made by the Dutch pottery maker De Distel from Amsterdam on August 26, 1899. This is model 43, a clock 30.5 cm (12 inch) high, 24.3 cm (9.5 inch) wide, and 10.5 cm (4.1 inch) deep. This model is rarely seen on the market and was possibly manufactured by Distel for only a short time. The clock has a flared base and a crown with decorative details. The object is beautifully painted with seahorses and floral motifs on both the front and sides. The top of the clock is painted with vertical stripes and swirling figures. The colour composition in green, blue, red, and yellow is very beautiful. The clock is clearly signed with the name of the pottery factory: Distel, a reference to the production date: 26/8/99, and a reference to the model and decoration: 43/6. You can also see the signature inside the base: HG (name unknown). The clock is in good condition, with only a tiny but of damage on one of the outermost points (see photo). The clock itself has not been tested, and there is no key present. The clock is part of the Meentwijck Collection, one of Hollands most renowned collections.
