Description
This vase was made by the Dutch pottery company Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland from Gouda during the period 1900-1903. This is model 222, a vase with a wide base, a narrow neck, and four prominent handles. The vase is 23.3 cm or 9.2 inch high and 16.4 cm or 6.4 inch wide and features a floral decoration. On the bottom, you can see that the vase is well marked. You can see the name of the factory: Made in Zuid-Holland, the Lazarus Gate, and the signature ‘R’, which presumably belongs to Dirk-Jan Jaap, a ceramic painter who worked at the Zuid-Holland pottery company between 1900 and 1903. The model number 222 is also carved into the base of the vase. The vase has a small chip on one of the four corners and a crack in one of the four arms (see photos, greatly magnified).
