Description
This pair of vases was produced by the Dutch pottery factory Zuid-Holland from Gouda in the period 1900 or 1902. The vases are Model 55 with handles, measuring 21.9 cm (8.6 inch) high and 12.5 cm (4.9 inch) wide. The vases are painted with a Delft decoration. This design was introduced to the market, late 1900, to compete with the popular Delft Blue. The Delft decorations were designed by Henri Breetvelt and were marketed in both traditional blue and white designs as well as this polychrome design in brown, yellow, and dark green on a white background with flowers and birds. The painter of this pair of vases is unknown. The vases are clearly signed on the bottom. You can see the words: Made in Zuid-Holland, the Lazaruspoortje, and the signature E. One of the vases is intact; the other vase has undergone restoration at the base. Furthermore, it has discoloration under the attachment of one of the arms.
