Description

This wall charger was made by the Dutch Rozenburg pottery factory from The Hague in September 1903. The wall plate is 17.6 cm (6.9 inch) wide and is painted with a beautiful decoration of chrysanthemums. The influence of Japonism is very clearly visible in the painting. At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, Dutch artists were inspired by the drawing style and themes of Japanese woodblock prints. The choice of these chrysanthemums, and the asymmetrical arrangement of the composition, are clearly inspired by this. The plate is clearly signed with the factory stamp of Rozenburg The Hague. Furthermore, you can see a star: the year mark for 1903, the work order number: 894, and the signature of Samuel Schellink. A striking detail is that the date of production is written on the back of the plate. The plate is in good condition. A very small chip along the rim has been professionally restored. There is no trace of it left now.
