Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery factory Wed N.S.A. Brantjes & Co from Purmerend. The exact date is not known. The Brantjes pottery factory was active between 1895 and 1904. The vase is model 1055, a bottle-shaped object of 40 cm or 14.7 inches high and 18 cm or 7 inches wide. The vase has a beautiful decor of chestnuts. You see both the leaves and the blossom. This design was probably inspired by the botanical illustrations of J. Milesi, which were published in 1896 in the book ‘La plante et ses application ornamentales’ (see illustration). The vase has a particularly beautiful colour scheme with turquoise, greyish green, yellow, lilac and chestnut brown. The vase is signed, but the signature is difficult to read. Elements are legible, such as the model number: 1055. This vase is also depicted in the book ‘Purmerends Jugendstil Aardewerk 1895 – 1907 (page 94), published by the Museum Purmerend. The vase is in excellent condition. Sold!
