Description

This vase was made by the Dutch pottery factory De Distel Pottery from Amsterdam, circa 1905. It was designed by Bart Nienhuis. This is model 269, an octagonal design 25 cm ((.8 inch) high and 17 cm (6.7 inch) wide, painted with stylized flowers and branches in black and ochre yellow against a dark turquoise background. Unlike many Distel-Nienhuis objects, the vase is not matte, but has a subtle gloss. The object is in excellent condition. There is a small firing flaw on the neck, and a tiny piece of glaze is missing from the foot (too small to photograph). The vase is marked with the factory stamp of De Distel Amsterdam and lacks a signature. The model number is scratched into the bottom: 269. This vase comes from the Meentwijck Collection.
