Description

This large ewer was made by the Dutch pottery factory Rozenburg from The Hague in 1899. The object is model 350, a heavy piece of pottery measuring 27 cm or 10.6 inches high and 26 cm or 10.2 inches wide. The design has a large ear that extends all the way from the bottom to the spout. The ewer is painted with an imaginative floral decor in beautiful colours. Blue, purple, dark red, yellow and various shades of green, against a brown background. If you look closely, you will see two calyxes from which stamens emerge and stylised leaves. The shapes also resemble flames. Each side gives a completely different image, with different colours. You won’t get bored, looking at this stunning piece. The ewer was made on January 20, 1899 and painted by Jacob van Rossum. We know this from the work order number: 131. The work order books have been preserved in the archives of the Hague Municipal Archives and you can look up additional information about antique Rozenburg pottery, such as the production date, the painter and the model number. The ewer is in excellent condition. No damage was observed.
